Triumphant Ninth Inning Rally Falls One Run Short in Chihuahuas 12-11 Loss

The El Paso Chihuahuas plated two runs on three consecutive hits with two outs in the ninth inning Thursday but fell a run shy in their 12-11 loss to the Round Rock Express. Round Rock has won the first two games of the series, handing El Paso it’s third series loss in their last four tries.

Jerry Keel had his second consecutive strong start for the Chihuahuas, allowing three earned runs in 5.1 innings. Through his last 12.1 innings, he’s allowed just four earned runs. El Paso’s pitching staff will need to improve if they are going to stay competitive with the playoffs just a few weeks away.

Chihuahuas’ catcher Webster Rivas went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two home runs and five RBIs on his 29th birthday. Infielder Ty France went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, advancing his league-leading batting average to .400.

El Paso has taken a backseat to Las Vegas, now trailing the division lead by a game. Round
Rock began the second team in the Pacific Coast League to tally their 70th win of the season.
