The Los Angeles Sparks faced off against the Chicago Sky with both teams coming into the game on winning streaks. The Sparks managed to come out victorious winning their fifth straight game by defeating the sky 84-81.
The Sparks were down by 12 points after turning the ball over seven times in the first quarter. Coach Fisher got a technical foul in the second quarter and the Sky extender their lead to 16 points. The Sparks were able to regroup for the remainder of the quarter and cut the lead to 44-39 heading into halftime. The third quarter saw both teams battling it out with the Sky still leading 61-59. The game came down to the wire with the Sky’s Allie Quigley missing the game tying three point shot at the buzzer and the Sparks getting the win.
Chelsea Gray led the way for the Sparks with 26 points and hit two crucial free throws with under a minute to go in the game.
Nneka Ogumike added 17 points and 12 rebounds of her own.
Allie Quigley led the sky with 20 points.
The Sparks had a special halftime tribute for the late rapper Nipsey Hussle.
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was at Staples Center viewing the game from the sidelines.
The Sparks next game is on the road 8/14 versus the Dallas Wings.
