In a night that was full of excitement with the return of Candace Parker, the Los Angeles Sparks ended up losing to the Washington Mystics 81-52.
The crowd was electric during warm-ups as the news spread that Parker would be suiting up for her first game of the season. Parker was rusty after coming back from a hamstring injury, and only scored 3 points on 1-9 shooting from the field.
The Sparks were down by 14 points and shot only 18.8% from the field in the first quarter. They couldn’t catch a break and played catch up all night. They continued their dismal play by being down 48-27 at the half.
The Mystics never looked back, shooting 46.4% from three point range. The Mystics also had 20 steals and capitalized on every opportunity presented.
Ariel Atkins led the Mystics with a game-high 22 points.
The Sparks shot 28.8% from the field and had 27 turnovers for the game. They just couldn’t find their shot, and their defense was out of sync.
It will take some time before the Sparks can get use to Parker being on the floor with the team.
The Sparks hit the road on Friday where they will face off against the Seattle Storm.
Can the Sparks bounce back and get a win with Parker back on the line up?
