Gordon a Cali girl who grew up in Fontana/ Rancho Cucamonga area is of Vietnamese descent. She started playing soccer at the age of 4 because her two older sisters played as well, and she always wanted to be like them. They didn’t come from a soccer culture family, so she wasn’t extremely aware of the opportunities that were out there for women professional soccer players. She knew during that time who were the idols of many the 99ers Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain etc, but she never understood what that meant or what they were doing. Now things have changed for positive and the Women’s game has been growing since she was 4. With what the USWNT champions are doing in social media platforms has created more visibility and they have paved the way for more generations to come to show the women’s game by creating awareness. “But I think there has to be more to be done in the women’s league here, in the NWSL there’s no marketing for it, it needs more exposure there’s so much more the league can do, even the girls in general, it’s one of the best leagues for women in the world, and it’s crazy that there aren’t any commercials or billboards”, she said.

She started playing for a club team called Arsenal FC for nine years, and after that she played for Long Beach State for 4 years, in that transition is when she decided that she wanted to do professional soccer. She did preseason for the Boston Breakers and then she had a lot of injuries, after that got healthy and decided to play oversees in Australia for the Great Western Wonders which she got a contract for. After being in Australia she moved out to Sweden where she played too. After being oversees is when she decided it was time to fulfill her wish of playing for the NWSL with Sky Blue FC for 2 seasons, now she plays for fun without being so competitive. “Being a professional athlete is extremely difficult, for many reasons, all the sacrifices and all the work off and on the field, we train 5 days a week, have one game, and only one day off and being away from our family, but that’s something that I wanted to do that I chose and told myself that I was going to do no matter what including flying far from the country, playing with a team where English was not the first language so it was a guessing game with what the drills were going to be; when you are so passionate about something there are always ups and downs”, she added.

She’s involved with so many different aspects of the game, from having her own business where she trains kids every day, coordinates and styles shoes for a site called Kicks to the Pitch where she leads the female content and shoots email for football lovers where she gets to showcase their style. She has a show content coming up where she’ll provide training workouts; technical/physical to players all over the world, and also just started a project called football for her which is female mentoring clinics that will start in the LA area. “I’ve been very fortunate to kind of be in the game without being so competitive including introducing the sport to adults”, she said. During the summer she has trained kids for more than 9 hours “My body was hurting more during the summer than in games that I’ve played,” she said. She’s a Barcelona and PSG men’s and women’s fan loves their kits some of the players on the women’s team are her friends. She grew up being an LA Galaxy fan but with what LAFC have done with the soccer culture and the game for all of the MLS teams she enjoys watching their games. Bringing an NWSL team to LA has been a wish of many fans, the 99ers and her “When I was playing I was wishing that there was a team here in LA I wish there can be an LA team soon,” she said.
