We all know what you’re thinking, preseason needs to end we want the regular season to start already. Trust me all of us here at The Family Sports Cave feel the same way but all we can do is enjoy what we have coming up for the NFL, which is week 1 of preseason.
Thursday night has a huge line up of games starting at 5pm Mountain Time, and we have so much to look out for while we prepare for the regular season. who are you rooting for? What players will shine and who will be a bust? Does your team have potential to be Superbowl contenders after the drafts and trades that were done in the summer? We have many questions and can’t wait to get answers. Let’s get to it and break down Week 1.
Some games to look out for Week 1:
1. Philadelphia Eagles vs Pittsburg Steelers:
After winning the Superbowl and demonstrating that being the underdog team but have the will to win can truly pay off. They put in Nick Foles who took the team all the way showing true potential and having a bright future with the Eagles for a long time. But it looks like he will not shine week 1 of preseason due to muscle spasms near his neck and shoulder and Carson Wentz is unlikely to play since he hasn’t been cleared from his ACL injury that he received last season. It looks like the Eagles third stringer Nate Sudfeld will get most of the action against the Steelers.
For the Steelers their Main Man Big Ben will not be playing. This came from their head coach Mile Tomlin who said that he will play quarterbacks Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs and Mason Rudolph will be playing and not Roethlisberger. He states and quote “I haven’t determined how I am going to utilize them in totality other than Ben will not play.” They will also not have Antonio Brown on the field Thursday due to an undisclosed injury but will be likely to play week two.
2. New England Patriots vs Washington Redskins
After losing to the Eagles in the Superbowl several changes have been done in the Patriots franchise. Some of the biggest concerns for the Patriot Nation is how well the Second string QB Brian Hoyer will perform under Belichick, the most recent signing of Wide Receiver Erick Decker coming from division rivals The New York Jets and the release of Malcom Mitchell who had a history of Injuries and missing out the entire season. Let’s see what the Patriots have to offer week 1.
For Washington it looks like their preparing with some good players ready and excited for the 2018 season. After some injury confusion in the team Josh Doctson has been surprising during practice who is starting to look complete and healthy and most likely will appear week 1. Another player to look out for who is slowly proving to be a threat player for the Redskins is Wide Receiver Paul Richardson who many say is comparable to DeSean Jackson and could fill that void in the team.
Week 1 will continue Friday August 10th with a 5:30 game between the Atlanta Falcons vs the New York Jets, and at 8:30pm between the Detroit Lions vs Oakland Raiders. It Will conclude Saturday August 11TH with Minnesota Vikings vs Denver Broncos and LA Chargers vs Arizona Cardinals.
