Friday's match at StubHub Center of "El Trafico" wasn't as dramatic and definitely lack the amount of goals the previous derby's did. The first game in March was with Ibrahimovic's MLS debut and his heroic two goals capped a stunning comeback to give the Galaxy a 4-3 win. The second clash also saw the Galaxy salvage a result with a 2-2 draw after two late scores.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic inched closer to a scoring milestone he scored his 499th career goal on a deft tap outside the 6-yard box in the 15th minute in which VAR (Video Assistant Review) can into play when the replay showed the ball crossing the line just right before LAFC defender Danilo Silva could boot it away. Zlatan had many opportunities to score his 500th goal but LAFC goalkeeper Tyler Miller denied Zlatan and the rest of LA Galaxy on scoring a second goal.
Carlos Vela showed up once again by scoring another goal in the derby, which came in the form of a penalty when LA Galaxy defender Perry Kitchen fouled Vela inside the box in the 50th minute. Vela has now scored in every single derby and has four goals in three matches against LA Galaxy. It is safe to say that Vela likes to standout in these big games against their crosstown rival.
Each teamed walked away with one point and LA Galaxy won the season series (1-2-0) Galaxy moved into a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with Real Salt Lake. The big dilema with Galaxy is they are winless in their last five matches (0-2-3). On the other hand LAFC moved into sole possession of second place in the Western Conference, just three points behind first-place FC Dallas.
