Simmons, Sixers Make Statement...Take Game 1.

The Philadelphia Sixers who came into the playoffs winning 16 straight games made it 17 on Saturday night defeating the Miami Heat 130-103. The Sixers win this one without All-Star Joel Embiid but leaned on fellow rising star and rookie Ben Simmons and others to get a huge game 1 win.

Ben Simmons led with a double-double scoring 17 points, and 14 assist and also snatching down 9 rebounds. He controlled the game from the beginning and his wore his emotions on his sleeve giving the hometown Philly fans excitement they haven’t felt since Allen Iverson last put on a uniform as a Sixer. JJ Redick had a game high 28 points for the Sixers. Reserve Marco Belinelli contributed 25 points off the bench and starting forward Dario Saric added 20 points and 6 rebounds.

The Sixers were a plus 18 from three and had five players score 17 plus points or more in this game. Their starters outscored the Heat starters 76-43.

The Miami Heat were led by reserve Kelly Olynyk who scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. First year All-Star Goran Dragic contributed 15 points. The Heat did not get much help from their big man Hassan Whiteside which they may have expected with the absence of Embiid for the Sixers, he only played 12 minutes and had 2 points and 6 rebounds.
