The Detroit Pistons (34-40) defeated the visiting Los Angeles Lakers 112-106. The Pistons have now won four of their last five games and are still alive in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. They are five games back of the eighth seeded Miami Heat (39-35).
Pistons were led by guard Reggie Jackson 20 points. Center Andre Drummond dominated with 15 points and 18 rebounds. Blake Griffin and Anthony Tolliver also contributed 15 points. The Pistons were also a plus 21 from three (13-6). This team took a combined 100 field goal attempts for the game, compared to just 85 from the Lakers.
The Lakers (32-41) young stars led the way. Julius Randle had a another double-double 23 points and 11 rebounds, Kyle Kuzma had 20 points and 11 rebounds. Lonzo Ball contributed 15 points and 11 assist. The Lakers bench without the services of guard Isaiah Thomas were outscored by the Pistons bench 42-21.
The Lakers outscored the Pistons at the freethrow line 20-11 despite no Lakers guards shooting a single free throw. The Lakers are now officially eliminated from playoff contention.
Eight games left on the schedule for the Pistons for a chance at the eighth seed. If they did happen to get the eighth spot in the East, do they really believe they have a chance to beat Toronto four times? Just a thought as the seasons winds down.
