I had the opportunity to interview Jabari K. Smith who is a former Texas Tech football player, author of the book Life's Playbook: 11 Plays to Success and founder of The Professional Athlete. Which is a webcast where he interviews former athletes who are now successful outside of sports! Jabari seriously does it all! His charisma, attitude, and personality made this such an incredible interview and experience for myself!
"Since the age of 14 I committed my life to play professional football on Sundays"
Jabari shared his childhood dream saying, "Since the age of 14 I committed my life to play professional football on Sundays." While in high school he became a top athlete and was recruited by Texas Tech Football Program, he was offered a full ride scholarship. After graduating from Texas Tech he moved on to play in the Arena Football League (AFL) and shortly after he realized that that the opportunities of playing professional football were very slim and he would have to move on to other aspirations in life.
"Reality hit me and I realized my life has changed forever... That's when the depression kicked in."
This was very difficult for Jabari and said,"Reality hit me and I realized my life has changed forever because I can no longer play the sport I grew up loving and get paid for it. That's when the depression kicked in." Jabari talks about how he overcame the depression and finding the will within himself to overcome this difficult time in his life and that is what sparked him to write the book Life's Playbook: 11 Plays to Success where he shares his life learned lessons of being a former athlete. The book is also a blue print on how to become successful in life by using the methods taught in sports.
It was truly an honor to interview Jabari and I look forward to having him on the show again. Please comment below your thoughts and share this with anyone that needs to hear this message.
