Chargers Finish Season Strong Winning 23-9 vs Broncos
The Los Angeles Chargers finished the season finishing 12-4 as I predicted in my first article I wrote on the fantasysportscave.com. Philip Rivers haven’t been looking good of late throwing for 3 TD’s to 6 INT’s in the last three games. Not the greatest way to end the season but finished 2-1 record in those last three games. The run game was also there and seeing a healthy Melvin Gordon in the backfield gives me confidence moving forward.
Right out the gate rivers did it again! Throwing a INT very early in the game, as early as the 4th play of the game. The INT’s didn’t stop there Rivers threw another one on the 3rd drive of the game, which makes that 2 in the first quarter. Besides the fact Rivers finished the game finished 14/24 176 yards 1 TD and 2 INT’s. The touchdown was to the one and only 2nd year man out of Clemson Mike Williams on a play action goal line play. With that TD Mike Williams has 10 TD on the season. The last Charger receiver to do so in the regular season was Antonio Gates back in 2014. Overall Rivers turned around his poor performance early in the game and salvage the game.
Melvin Gordon was running good throughout the game rushing on 10 attempts for 42 yards. Didn’t get much carries after a awkward landing on his knee that made him exit early and rest through out the rest of the game. After that Austin Ekeler took over and averaged 7.3 yards per carry on 8 carries and 58 yards and a TD. The TD was in the 4th quarter 1-yard out to solidify the lead making the score 23-9.
It was a very defensive game for the first half having the only score coming off a scoop and score on a backwards pass to Royce Freeman that couldn’t secure the pass and that led to MLB Kyle Emanuel scoring a TD. The Chargers D also force 2 more fumbles and 1 INT after the first turnover making a total of 4. The second fumble was forced by pro-bowler S/Special Teams Adrian Phillips that was recovered by Joey Bosa. The 3rd fumble was off the kickoff returned by Carcraft forced by Desmond King recovered by CB Brandon Facyson. Joey Bosa also got sack finishing the season with 5.5 sacks starting only 6 games.
Overall the Chargers shown to a lot of doubters that they are the most complete team in the AFC. Finishing the season 12-4 is such a great accomplishment from finishing last season 9-7 barely missing the playoffs. This year is a different story, more complete on D, dangerous weapons on offense and a burst at Special Teams with Desmond King and a kicker that can kick in Michael Badgley. Los Angeles face the Ravens in Baltimore in the first round in the wild-card playoffs and I have complete confidence that the Chargers will past the Ravens and make there way to the Super Bowl in HOT-lanta!
