LOS ANGELES, CA- AFC West Roundup
Interesting weekend for the AFC West this Sunday. With the top remaining on the top and the bottom remain the bottom. Chiefs stopped a Broncos comeback to win it 30-23 and the Colts beating the Raiders 42-28. A lot is to come of this weekend as Mahomes continues to thrive with the red hot Chiefs offense. Broncos made it close but with cursal turnovers that cost them the game. The Raiders on the other hand fell apart in the fourth and couldn’t make up.
First off the Machomes and the Chiefs are still managing to keep expectations high as they defend homefield against the Broncos Sunday. Chiefs rushing game wasn’t as present as usual with only 49 yards on the day from the whole team. I was impressed with the TD catch from Kareem Hunt breaking tackles, spinning and hurdling over defenders for a TD. Mahomes threw 4 TD as usual coming in this game with 22 TDs on the season. Two of those touchdown were to quite wideout Sammy Watkins and one to Travis Kelce and one to Kareem Hunt that I mention earlier.
Broncos had the chance to tight in the fourth but with a fumble to start the fourth quarter and a INT thrown later a couple minutes later. The Broncos been the closest to winning the Chiefs this season losing the first contest by four and this week by seven. The Broncos only got to the QB 5 times to opposing to 2 sacks they got. Case Keenum did get some good open looks to his receivers but didn’t see enough to get the win. Both turnovers were from Keenum so in total of two from him alone, with that the Broncos can’t win making mistakes dropping to 3-5.
The Raiders looked good until the fourth when they lost the lead and ever since then the Raiders let anything and everything go by plus a fumble in the late fourth quarter that stop the comeback. Derek Carr managed to NOT, yes I said “NOT”, because his TD to INT ratio was 7/8 coming in the game. Raiders also allowed 222 yards, 132 yards from Marlon Mack and 78 yards from Hines. To add to that Luck threw for 239 yards and 3 TD no INT. Overall the Raiders fall to 1-6 and look in full rebuild mode I see the same coming in the future.
The AFC West is divided in two in 1st Chiefs on top at 7-1, 2nd Chargers 5-2, 3rd Broncos 3-5, and dead last Raiders 1-6. Next week matchups are Chiefs (7-1) @ Cleveland to face the 2-5-1 Browns, the Raiders (1-6) across the bay against the 49ers (1-7) battle of the “One-Winners”, Chargers (5-2) at the 12th man and the (4-3) Seahawks and last and prob least the Broncos (3-5) defend homefield against the RED HOT (5-3) Texans. Good matchups this coming up week and a tie race on the top with the Chiefs and Chargers that I think will boil down to the last couple games.
