Chargers Win Thriller In London

Chargers win thriller in London

In came close in Wembley Field Sunday morning coming down to the last play of scrimmage and 30 seconds left. A lot of factors contributed for LA with the another amazing passing performance from, an earlier MVP candidate, “Old Man” Rivers. Without starting star RB Melvin Gordon and pretty much without a running game the Chargers managed to take a dub. Defense did there part causing one INT and two sacks also getting stops when needed.

Philip threw for 306 yards on 19/26 3 TD and 0 INT’s with his 199th career start and this was also Rivers 60th game passing for more than 300+ yards a game. Rivers connected with his new favorite target Tyrell Williams two weeks in the row. Williams has 3 TD’s in two games all three on 40+ yards. Tyrell only had 1 TD in his previous games.  Also Rivers found sophomore wideout Mike Williams for an wide open 55 yard TD on a miscommunication from the secondary. Philip also went without throwing an INT once again which put him at 17/3 touchdown to interception ratio. Also with a QBR of 117.8 and completing 69% of his passes Rivers is bond to has a MVP season.

The most thing I was concerned about was the absence of RB Melvin Gordon. He had a hamstring injury Friday which ruled him out for Sunday's contest.  Backup running back Austin Ekeler took the workload but only managed to rush for 42 yards on 12 carries, despite Chargers coming in Sunday 4th in the league. Ekeler also came into this game averaging 8.5  all-purpose yards per game. Chargers are heading home to a bye and hopefully Gordon can heal up and be ready.

Defense had me on the edge of my bed but came up when needed the most. Defense was on the field for 10 more minutes then offense and at one point on the field for 10 minutes on one drive but only allowed 3 points. Mariota on one drive was marching down the field before the half, and the Chargers forced a INT in the red zone. Which was Mariota’s first red zone INT in his career. The most important stop was :35 seconds left the Titans just scored and it was a one point game and Titans Head Coach Mike Vrabel decided to go for two. No back set and a WR motion across the line there was a wide open Taywan Taylor in the back of the endzone but it was tipped by S Adrian Phillips to break up the pass to end the game.

Chargers improved to 5-2 which is second in the AFC West right being the red hot Chiefs. LA has a bye coming week 8 which gives the team time to rest from the long flights from London. Come week 9 the Chargers are up against a struggling 3-3 Seahawks squad. Overall the Chargers can lower the opponents 3rd down conversion rate and total yards allowed that can help on the long run. The Chargers have an extra to prepare for the Seahawks and hope to improve their win streak to 5.
